Jane was elected to the Vermont Senate representing the Caledonia/Orange District in 2004. As Vice-Chair of the Senate Appropriations Committee Jane worked to:
Pass a balanced budget without taking $16 million from Vermont hospitals and shifting costs to the Education Fund as proposed by Governor
   
Expand free school breakfasts because hungry children do not get full benefit of their educational opportunity;
   
Preserve funding to the Vermont Housing and Conservation Board for affordable housing and land conservation  
   
Secure increased funding for adult day and residential care services that are crucial for Seniors to stay in their homes and communities
   
Protect tuition-paying towns from the excess spending penalty
   
Ensure job training investments are well spent so Vermonters can get and keep good jobs
