To the Editor:
Jane Kitchel has been an excellent senator for Caledonia and Orange
counties for the last two years and I am writing to encourage voters
to send her back to Montpelier on Nov. 7. As a volunteer guardian
ad litem in the Vermont court system, I have learned firsthand that
the needs of Vermont's most vulnerable citizens, our children, can
be lost in the shuffle. Senator Kitchel was appointed to vice chairman
of the Appropriations Committee and she has worked hard to ensure
that the state budget puts first the needs of those who cannot look
out for themselves. Also, she was appointed by the Vermont Supreme
Court to the Vermont Justice for Children Task Force. The task force
was charged with identifying systemic barriers that contribute to
children remaining in foster care for a longer period than is necessary
and developing recommendations for the court system to ensure permanency
for these children. She was the only senator appointed to this task
force. Her expertise has been invaluable and I am proud that she
comes from Caledonia County. I look forward to a second term for
Jane Kitchel.
